Woori Cheh

Woori graduated from the Gonzaga University’s School of Law in 2011. As a third-year law student, Woori obtained a position as an APR 9 prosecutor with the Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney’s office and assisted in criminal prosecution on district court matters. Woori successfully tried cases as the lead prosecutor on several DUI related matters during his time as an APR 9 with Skagit County.  Upon graduation, Woori was offered a position with a prestigious law firm overseas doing transactional work with foreign contracts but declined as his true passion was in criminal defense work.

After passing the Washington State Bar, Woori began working in public criminal defense for clients out of Everett Municipal Court.  He tried numerous cases often resulting in his clients being acquitted by a jury on charges including DUI, Assaults, and other offenses.  In 2015, Woori left public defense and started his career in private practice where he has excelled and expanded his repertoire of experience to include serious felony matters ranging from violent offenses, felony assaults, drug charges, and white-collar crimes.  Woori does not find himself uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations. He is adept at analyzing facts and circumstances and applying them to defend his clients to the best of his ability.

As a ”Presumption of Innocence” is a foundational element in any criminal matter, Woori always demonstrates a continuous and passionate method in exhausting all legal theories to ensure that each client receives a robust, professional and fair opportunity to fight each allegation and accusation. As a result, Woori has developed his skills as a strong advocate for his clients and formidable adversary against the prosecution.  This approach has resulted in many successful resolutions on various criminal matters.

Woori always puts his clients first.  He listens well and does his best to find the angles to serve their defense.  His arguments are well organized, and he has gained the respect of both the prosecution bar as well as the bench and is regarded as a strong legal advocate.

Woori has proven himself as a strong leader in his community.  He works with several youth groups and tutors graduating teens in preparation for the SAT.  He is a talented musician that plays multiple instruments and whose troupe has been invited to play cultural events throughout the world.  He has harnessed his dedication and discipline to achieve a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and can do the splits on demand.

Matt Stock Partner Attorney at Verity Criminal Defense

Partner

Matt Stock

A Washington native who grew up on Mercer Island, Matt is considered a “Double Dawg” because he obtained two degrees from UW: his undergraduate degree in History (2009) and his J.D. (2014).  In law school, Matt enjoyed studying the areas of law that had a strong human element; that is, studying cases that had compelling stories about people, which included criminal law, torts, and family law.  This turned into a drive to help people in stressful situations and has stuck with him throughout his professional career.

After passing the bar, Matt decided to pursue a career in criminal defense.  Matt took this route, in part, because of his own personal life experiences. These life experiences allow him to relate to his clients, many of whom are facing frightening circumstances resulting from a difficult relationship or life-changing decisions. Matt’s life experience provides unique insight into situations his clients may currently be going through—this provides a background he can rely on to empathize and relate.  This same experience allows Matt to understand his clients and know what is at stake when facing a criminal matter that can affect a career, a family, or a home.

Matt’s philosophy in practicing law stems from him knowing that everyone makes mistakes and that people are not defined by their mistakes.  Matt knows what clients often feel in terms of guilt, shame, or embarrassment when they, or someone close to them, are charged with a crime.  Matt has dedicated his practice to being there for these clients, not only as an attorney, but as another source of support.

For Matt, getting to know the colorful and varied characters, and helping these people out, is certainly the most rewarding part of being a criminal defense lawyer. At the same time, though, he appreciates a good fight. If getting to know people and helping them through a tough time is the soul-nourishing part of the job, the competition, challenge, and gamesmanship involved in preparing a solid defense are certainly the intellectually stimulating aspects of the work.

Matt loves going into court and giving it his all, not knowing what the outcome will be, but fighting like hell for his client. Matt loves spinning a narrative to a jury and telling a compelling story - his client’s story.  Matt loves earning (the rare) acquittals. He loves diving into the caselaw like a treasure hunt and then meticulously building an airtight argument for a motion.  Matt loves the delicate nuance of recognizing his opponent’s interests (and how they may overlap with his client’s) and trying to craft, persuade, and negotiate his way into a killer deal for his client. Matt just loves the job in general and is grateful (mostly) every day he gets to come in and do it.

When Matt’s not at work, he hangs out at his Seattle home with his lovely girlfriend and their two dogs.  On the weekends, he likes to hike, hang out with friends, and stay physically active. The most important things in Matt’s life are working hard for his clients and spending time with his family, friends, and dogs.
